The right SIRIM service.

Identify whether the request concerns product certification, electrical equipment, communications equipment or another service. Ask what legal requirement, tender condition or customer specification triggered it. This avoids commissioning a valid but irrelevant assessment that does not meet the actual Malaysian market or purchasing requirement.

• Define the product, destination and required evidence together.

Select the applicable product standard and certification scheme with the relevant body. Record model families, brands, manufacturing sites and the proposed licence holder. SIRIM’s product certification services do not mean that every product carrying the same brand is automatically certified or that all SIRIM schemes have identical conditions.

• Resolve brand-owner and manufacturer authorizations early.

Review existing reports against the chosen standard, edition and construction. Identify critical differences between sample variants and normal production. A practical technical file should connect drawings, component specifications and operating instructions to the test sample so later manufacturing changes can be evaluated against a stable baseline.

• Prepare a model matrix and controlled bill of materials.

Where the scheme includes factory assessment and surveillance, prepare manufacturing and inspection records that show consistent conformity. SIRIM QAS’s product certification agreement addresses continuing responsibilities under the licence. Keep corrective actions traceable and make sure production personnel understand the checks that maintain the certified product characteristics.

• Document incoming inspection, final checks and nonconforming product controls.

SIRIM QAS distinguishes product marks and regulated labels from management system marks and corporate logos. Apply only the marking authorized for the certified scope and follow its licence conditions. Do not use an organization’s corporate identity as though it were a product approval or endorsement.

• Check standard and licence information on proposed artwork.

A SIRIM service may form part of a regulator’s process without replacing the regulator’s other requirements. Electrical, communication and import controls should be mapped separately where relevant. Maintain a release checklist covering certificate validity, model identity, approved labelling and any additional permits required by the specific product route.
